En pleno siglo XXI ¿no sería mejor que desapareciera el concepto de nación, y que surgiera realmente un estado mundial? ¿De que sirve ser colombiano si lo importante es pertenecer a este planeta?

Las naciones siguen siendo importantes para darnos un sentido de pertenencia a un colectivo, que al mismo tiempo nos distingue de otros colectivos. Sin embargo, las naciones no necesariamente deben ser lo mismo que estados, como ocurrió los dos últimos siglos. Pueden ser redes que traspasan las fronteras de los países, como los voluntarios de Greenpeace, los coach surfers, los usuarios de Amway o los fieles del Islam.

Sin embargo, apuesto a que cuando haya más de un planeta habitado (por colonos humanos o por alguna civilización extra-terrestre), esas identidades nacionales actuales tenderán a ser menos importantes y nos empezaremos a reconocer más como terrícolas que como colombianos o suizos.

Deep in 21st Century wouldn't be better to eliminate the concept of nation and to raise a global state? Why to be a Colombian if the really important is to belong to this planet?

Nations are still important because they both give us a sense of belonging to a collective and separate us from other collectives. However, nations not necessarily must be the same than States, as we got used to during the last two centuries. They can be networks that overflows countries' borders, such as Greenpeace volunteers, coach surfers, Amway users of Islam.

However, I bet that when more than one planet be populated (either by human settlers or by some extra-terrestrial civilisation), those current national identities will fade off and we will tend to recognise ourselves more as earthlings than as Colombians or Swiss.
